With all that is transpiring in the world (Pandemic, Social Injustice, Etc.), inclusion and diversity has come to the forefront. In the midst, I have witnessed amazing opportunities for marginalized groups to be actively included into industries (such as Yoga) that have been whitewashed over the years and are now striving to do and be better by promoting and uplifting wellness in marginalized communities. Unfortunately, within this past week I have also seen (via social media posts/comments and emails) people speaking from a place of privilege talking down to those marginalized people in the most egregious, disrespectful, and demeaning manner. Let me say it loud and clear that affording someone an opportunity that they might have not otherwise had DOES NOT and WILL NOT ever give you the right to treat them like they are beneath you. Aggressive and rude behavior directed towards a community that you are claiming to want to help speaks volumes. Additionally, offering these opportunities only to capitalize on and profit from the BLM movement is disgusting. I, and many others that were subjected to this, are hurt, disheartened, and outraged that this type of behavior is being perpetuated and tolerated.
