Marketing help!

I work at a very small company, and we don't have an official marketing department. I expressed interest, and now I AM the marketing department. The only budget that I have is for LinkedIn campaigns. Any advice on how to find free, industry-specific outlets for blogs or articles? Or on how to set up good LinkedIn campaigns? I want to make a good impression and am willing to put time into this, but I have no idea where to start!

Connect with a professional marketing organization and identify opportunities to secure a marketing intern. Having an intern brings fresh, savvy eyes to any project.

Hi Natalie, I manage digital marketing for a North American corporation and have been in the digital/social media field for 11 years. I would first seek to understand why you only have a budget for LinkedIn and not other social media platforms - perhaps by understanding your audience and goals better as there could be a slight reason for this. I urge you to also check out Facebook’s small business resources, Facebook Blueprint courses, and LinkedIn resources. LinkedIn does have a lot of content and knowledge resources. They also have certification courses you can take.

Hello Natalie, There are many free tutorials on LinkedIn where you can learn all the ways to create a successful marketing campaign. -You can also learn from free and low-cost sites on how to market effectively at Udemy and skillshare. -Make sure to follow other social media and digital marketers to see there techniques for marketing. -Use social media planning and creation tools like Planoly, canva, and hubspot. Many of them offer free workshops for learning how to brand your social media effectively. -Keep up and learn new stuff in your industry almost everyday. Watch what other marketers are implicating in their strategy. -Share posts, graphics, and charts from other people in your industry. Content re-purposing is great.

Hi Natalie! I work for an SEO content marketing agency. There are a lot of resources on Google if you search for SEO blogs, how to create SEO optimized content, LInkedIN posting etc. If you have no budget at all, you may just have to go down the rabbit hole and do a lot of reading and trial and error things yourself until you find what works. If you are able to come up with a little bit of budget, there are plenty of vendors, freelancers, and companies who can likely help you out without costing too much to your bottom line. There is a lot to learn in the marketing scape and its always changing so I understand the stress and pressure of your new position! If you ever need any specific advice on SEO or content marketing feel free to reach out and I'll help where I can.

Hi Natalie! Beautiful name! ? I also work for a small company with no marketing department and I pivoted into the role in April. I too had no idea what I was doing but I’ve come a long way! My learnings have been: - Start where you are and progress in content and bells/whistles over time. Don’t worry about getting it all right the first time. - Think about social in campaigns where you post like topics in sequence each month. There are lots of free templates to lay out your campaigns which makes it easier to plan and see how posts will flow over time. - There are cool tools out there with FREE versions to create and post content. Two I am currently using are Canva for creative development and Hootsuite for automatic scheduling of posts. - Don’t be afraid to see what others are doing and replicate similar tactics with your own content. - You don’t have to create all new content. You can share others posts, articles, etc too. Lastly, just start! You can figure it out along the way. If I can do it, anyone can! If you would like to connect offline, let me know. ~Natalie

LinkedIn has some excellent free webinars on learning the ins and outs of their audience targeting options which is the biggest part of setting up the campaigns. They also do free webinars on content marketing. I recommend following Amber Naslund who is one of their senior content folks - she shares great tips all the time! Marketing Profs is also wonderful - lots of actionable blogs on content marketing and some free webinars, newsletters. Get work to cover a PTO membership for access to more learning options!

Hi Natalie, You can publish content on LinkedIn. I would make sure your company LinkedIn page is built out and you are actively posting content that drives back to your company website. For wider exposure, I would look to industry publications. Familiarize yourself with how to write a press release. There are a lot of good resources on the internet. Editors will publish press releases for free. You can also look at their editorial schedules in their media plans and see if you can contribute content to their upcoming editorials. As you build relationships with the publications, they should reach out to you for content. They will try to get you to spend on advertising, but you don’t need to commit to spending money with them if you don’t have it. They need a certain percentage of non-paid content in their publications. Good luck and welcome to marketing!
