ARE YOU EXPERIENCING WORK-FROM-HOME FATIGUE OR IS IT TIME TO MOVE ON?

I’ve worked from home for the last decade as both an employee and a business owner. I can tell work-from-home fatigue is setting in when I’m easily distracted and move from one task to another without much focus. Four things I’ve found helpful to combat work-from-home fatigue are: --Step outside for a 5-minute break --Get dressed as if you were going in the office --Get moving with 20 minutes of exercise halfway through the day --Walk away from your work for at least 10 minutes If you try these things consistently and you’re still feeling that fatigue, maybe it has nothing to do with working from home. It may be time to decide if staying at your job or going in a different direction is best for you. Questions?

Change of scenery and exercise is key for me. In addition, I find timers incredibly helpful. They can literally make the difference between a day that I kick butt and one that just gets fettered away by the hamster wheel.

Grace - yes! I agree...when I use timers my day looks very different(in a good way).

I always found it important to keep a "normal" routine. Get up, shower, put on "work" clothes and start your work at about the same time of day. Getting out of night gear, checking your social media, eating and drinking that cup of coffee help to get the brain on track. If I lounged around in sweats and watched some stupid tv show then it was a lot harder to get om the work track.

Sarah, I envy you! I've tried so hard to get up, shower, and get dressed (I do always get dressed just not in "work" clothes).

Well, to be honest my home work clothes are a lot more casual than I'd wear into an office but still it feels different when you do most of the routine as if you WERE going to a physical office. I admit to not "putting my face on" unless I know I'm going out later or will be on a video meeting.

These are great tips! I've also found it helps to work in a different room or area of your house than where you "hang out." When I work from the couch or the kitchen, I don't feel as separated from work when I log off as I do when I dedicate a makeshift office space that I can step away from at the end of the day. It also helps create more distinct breaks when you step further away than 10 feet for lunch.

Yes! I totally agree, Nicole. There is something to be said about "leaving work at work" when you can. And it is possible, even remotely.

Excellent advice. My CEO has walking cell phone calls; he walks his neighborhood during conversations and finds it helps him tremendously and recommended it to anyone who can do it.
