I'm currently in the market for a new position, and from past experience with various nonprofits, there seems to be a lack of diversity especially in leadership positions. The industry as a whole seems to lag behind in seeking diversity. Most organizations are ran by older white individuals which isn't representative of the populations the organization serves. As a minority with a Master's degree in nonprofit management and ten years of experience, diversity is important to me. I do not want to be a token representation.
How do I ask a potential employer about how they advocate and ensure diversity within their organization's hierarchy and/or what plans they have to create a more diverse team?
