Would this be desperate?

I applied for a job with a startup news organization back in January. Originally they had planned to start hiring in March. When COVID hit, they sent out a message saying they were suspending their launch and thus hiring for the foreseeable future. The organization just announced they were going ahead with the launch. Would it look bad if I sent an email to the hiring contact expressing that I’m still interested in the job? I REALLY want this. It checks all of my boxes and I think I’d be really good at it. I’m also concerned that I might not look like the best candidate on paper. I have a lot of experience but it’s with a very small organization, and since I applied, I’ve had my resume and cover letter redone by a professional service. I don’t want to look desperate, but, let’s be honest, I’m desperate. What do you guys think?

Not desperate... Interested... send the follow-up, create an alert and send another one in a few weeks. They appreciate the tenacity. Short, sweet, to the point... that's your goal. And you are staying top of mind! Thank you!

What do you have to lose? Call your contact right away and tell them you saw the news about the launch and are excited for them and therefore are calling about the job again.

Following up is actually an incredibly smart way for you to squash any doubt they may have that you're the right candidate for the job. I would send an email and reiterate two or three reasons hiring you will benefit their organization and be specific. Then I would follow up with a phone call. In this day and age where people rely on virtual communication (and often times ill-equipped for human interaction, you will make a positive impact. The job markets are cluttered and need to stand out, tell your personal brand story with confidence and emotional connectivity.

It would look great that you are following up and that the company is still top of mind for you! If I were the recruiter, I'd be appreciative of the proactive reach out.

I agree. Go for it. You should stretch those muscles and be seen as a go getter.
