I made some crazy mistakes in my early 20's that I am currently paying for because I never had the proper guidance and it is now affecting my ability to get an apartment. What do you guys do when that happens?

Have you tried an apartment not in a complex? Apartments owned by individuals are likely to rate the whole person and not just your credit. It would also help if you could get references/recommendations from people that know you now about what a good renter you will be. Good luck.

That sounds great. Would you happen to know a sight where I could possibly look up individual renters?

I would recommend an apartment search website like apartments.com or realtor.com - they usually have listings by both complexes and individual owners (via brokers). I would also recommend getting your credit report yearly (it's free!) from one of the top three creditor score keepers and if you have a credit card pay more than the minimum each time!

Something you can try, if possible, is getting a co-signer for the apartment, if where you're looking at allows that. It's a really hard ask of some people, as many may not be willing to put their credit at risk, but if you can work out a plan for just a year, where you pay the co-signer a fee for doing so, while also paying your rent on time, it'll help improve your credit. Are you in bind to get into an apartment ASAP, or do you potentially have time to work on your credit? Also, I have a friend who is starting a credit repair business, let me know if you're interested in getting in contact with her!

I tried the co-singing but due to co-vid, a lot of people that I have asked didn't really receive a paycheck but instead received unemployment, which many are not accepting in the process. I would like to get an apartment ASAP, my score is increasing but according to some companies my credit is still considered bad. Sure I would love to get in contact with someone who can help.
