It's now been several months since I was alerted by the unemployment office that my "job attached" status had changed after reaching the 16-week limit (I was collecting benefits while furloughed). I never received any communication from my former employer that they didn't intend to re-hire me after the furlough period (even if that were extended past 16-weeks), no notification of furlough to layoff, or information about necessary paperwork to tie up any loose ends.
At this point, it's incredibly strange to me not to have heard anything. Quick searches online show that the business has picked up again to some extent, and a former co-worker I've kept in contact with has indicated that their hours have been ramping up again to almost normal levels. She and other people working on the projects are all contractors, so I can understand why they are back at work vs. my FT salaried position.
I need to reach out and admittedly should have earlier. Any advice on how to best handle this?

Is the company you worked for large? My understanding is that an end date has to be attached to a furlough. The company is then responsible for extending it with UI. It's possible that if it's a smaller company who hasn't dealt with this situation before, they may not have known they needed to do that. If not, I would reach out. If they have let you go without talking to you that's not great. Do you talk to anyone else who is furloughed who may be able to compare notes?

A tiny company. I was the only furlough (only FT salaried employee), so, unfortunately, no one with whom to compare notes. I've been looking for a new FT position, my UE ran out; I don't believe I should be holding my breath for any severance. Thanks for your time!
