Job Posting

I have been actively looking for a job. I've seen job postings of positions that have been posted in company websites since February/March 2020. It is still up and in some sites such as Indeed of Glassdoor, they would appear as a posting that occurred a few days ago. What does this mean? Does it mean the position isn't filled yet and the company is looking or does it mean it is filled but the employer, maybe due to the lack of workforce capacity due to COVID, just has not taken down the post in their website?

Thank you all for your comments. For the positions I feel I fit, I applied directly to the company website since it's still up.

It could mean any of the above -- sometimes it really does take a while to fill a job, or it's a job they hire for frequently so they keep a posting up. It could also be a mistake, where they filled the role and forgot to take it down. I'd definitely check the company's careers page; if it's posted there, chances are it's a real position, ready for you to apply! :)

Depending on the type of role it could also be something they are always actively recruiting for. This is especially common in sales.

It might be that it was originally posted during that time but then maybe the budget for that particular division, role was put on hold given the pandemic. But then they got approval recently to move forward with it. Something similar happened to me with a role I applied for a couple months ago. It was posted in March, taken down and then re-posted in July. But I agree going directly to the company site and LinkedIn is a better indicator that they are still recruiting.

It’s possible it wasn’t taken down on indeed or the position is still open. Check if the position is listed on the company’s site, you are better off applying directly in the site. I would rely more on LinkedIn and the company job site.

Could be they filled the position and haven’t taken it down from these sites. Have also found some companies post roles that they are not actively hiring for or filling. Not sure of the logic on this...maybe an HR person can comment. If you are able to network with someone at the company, they can possibly help you determine the actual status of the position.
