I recently received and accepted an offer, and I gave an almost 3 weeks notice. My manager thanked me because he said he doesn't always get notice, some people just stop showing up. So I think it's the right thing to do to give any notice, because it's trending to not give notice and it also helps to not burn that bridge.

When you need to leave and you're running out of time to put in notice there are ways around that. Sometimes the policy is 2 weeks and sometimes it's 30 days depending on what you signed upon being hired, or what your company policy is. Find that out immediately.
If you don't have enough time to give the required notice, before you hand in your notice, put in for your vacation time and use that to transition.
