I am hoping to move from the Director role to a COO. In preparation for this move, I want to find a solid leadership coach to help me with the transition.
If you previously hired a leadership coach, can you share a few things?
1. How did you select your coach?
2. What is the biggest benefit of hiring a coach?
3. Was there anything you would do differently if you had to do it over?
4. As the only female leader in the company, would you suggest I hire a man or a woman? Why?
Thank you so much for helping me think this through. I appreciate your feedback.

I worked with a coach during a career transition and found it to be rewarding in so many ways. I selected her because I felt an immediate connection. Trust is critical because you do need to open up and be honest. The greatest benefit is your personal growth, stronger confidence and understanding of your strengths. I can't think of anything I would do differently. As for a man versus a woman, I think it can be either as long as it is someone you feel comfortable talking to, and who you think you can learn most from. If you are signaling that you anticipate the greatest challenge to be the only female leader among several men, you may want to work with a coach that has had similar experiences to draw upon. Good luck!

Hi Anonymous, I have hired many coaches for different purposes throughout my life and career. It’s the best investment I have ever made. When hiring someone to be your coach, it’s important to feel a connection, learn from someone who has been there done that or similarly as well as an accountability partner/ cheerleader.
I don’t think the gender of a coach matters as much as the questions they ask and impact it makes for the results you have in mind.
I have mentored, coached and consulted since 1990 as well as climbed the corporate ladder, in a predominantly male industry. I learned how to turn on my feminine side and the importance of my masculine energy as well.
I offer a free consultation if you would like to chat further. https://jackieruka.as.me/nextlevel

As a coach who has hired several coaches over the years, I think the biggest benefit is going further, faster than you could on your own. That gentle pushing of you, out of your comfort zone, is so worth the investment. I absolutely agree with the others that you need to feel a connection - chemistry - with your coach for the relationship to work.

Thats so exciting and congrats on moving on up and aspiring to grab better opportunities! Heres some of my insight, hope you enjoy!
1. How did you select your coach?
Its so hard to select a coach, I would suggest you do alot of research on the coaching strategy he/she uses as well as get some references
2. What is the biggest benefit of hiring a coach?
They take in all of your enthusiasm and motivation and give you a realistic objective milestone strategy. It is someone outside of your internal network that will help align your ambition and enthusiasm with logic and with a game plan
3. Was there anything you would do differently if you had to do it over?
I would do a-lot more research on your business coach because you are allowing them the privilege to fill up your cup as well as be the professional encouragement you need.
4. As the only female leader in the company, would you suggest I hire a man or a woman? Why?
I suggest you hire someone who knows what they're doing. Man or woman, a leader and coach should have compassion, empathy and encouragement and it doesn't need to be defined by gender but rather by strategy approach
Much luck! Come back and tell us how it goes!

Congratulations on your new role! What an exciting time and hiring a coach to amplify your success is the right call.
I am a coach (and not bias). I just know, first hand, the advancement and success working with a coach can bring.
- Selecting a coach is a process and there are a couple of factors to evaluate:
- - - What kind of clients do they have and what is their specialty?
- - - Am I comfortable with them, do they align with my essence, energy and values? Coaching is all about trust and vulnerability, comfort is incredibly important.
- The biggest benefit to hiring a coach is working with someone who objectively sees you and situations. This purview is leveraged to enhance your capabilities and catapult your leadership skills.
- Find the right coach for you, male or female doesn't matter, it goes back to feeling comfortable.
My clients are a mix of women in job transitions and high-achievers in large organizations (Facebook, Google, Tradedesk, Pinterest) who want to continue to succeed.
If you'd like to set up a discovery call with me, please feel free to connect, I'd love to chat and share the benefits of coaching with you directly.

I responded to the DM, FYI because FGB sometimes doesn't show messages.
