I’ve been with my current employer for just over 10 years (with more experience beyond that) and while I generally enjoy my job and like my team and have gotten promotions along the way, the company has been cutting budgets like crazy the past few years and it’s having a negative impact on morale and resources. A bunch of great/talented people are leaving for better paying jobs. I’m literally doing 2+ people’s jobs now and have next to no work life balance. I want to believe hard work & loyalty will pay off in the long run but I’m seeing others leaving with new job offers of salary increases nearly doubling -yes 2x- what my current employer pays. (They are known for not being the most competitive in terms of salary in the market, but have a strong brand name and pretty good benefits in general.) And with all of the cost cutting, my job also continues to morph to cover whatever the company needs - on one hand good learning opportunities but on the other, there are only so many ‘special projects’ one person can do in addition to a very full plate. I’m starting to wonder if staying could actually hurt my career growth. I’m comfortable but keep wondering if I’m selling my career (and family) short by staying. Advice welcome!
