My manager (woman) has a temper, and known to be vindictive. I've worked for her for almost 10 years (I was her first direct report, a few others have come/gone). Her leadership style is harsh criticism, never impressed, every way but her way is wrong, but she won't tell you what she wants, she hopes that you'll arrive at the correct (hers) solution yourself. If I don't, she belittles. Shes said to me on numerous occasions that I get "paid too much for this." And sneering, "that's why *I'm* the boss" (why it's her way or the highway). Last week she said to me, "I'm getting ready to release your review, and let me tell you, you're not going to like it." (with a condescending sneering attitude, not one of concern.) In a past review she threatened, "Do you want this job? Because let me tell you, I think you NEED this job." Ok. Scene set. My annual review with her is in a few days. Shes been even more mean toward me in the past few days than usual. Should I... a) ask her boss (our dept head) to be present at the review (I'm thinking she at least won't be threatening); or b) go alone but (secretly) record the meeting on my phone; or c) another solution I'm blinded to?
