Don't write it off, play the part, do your job, and keep looking. Afterward, speak with those in your network who supported your candidacy and ensure they aren't left with a bad taste. Who benefits from remaining in a bad situation?

I left a job which I had loved. We sold the company and the entire upper management staff was let go. The company I joined looked good on paper. Got there and the culture was completely opposite of what and who I am. I am pretty chill, they were all high stress. I walked home at lunch to eat, they all ate at their desks while worrying about every issue. Afterwards, they all went out and drank copiously. I would go for a single drink, and then go home and have dinner with my son. Took about a week before we came to the agreement that I wasn't culturally a fit. They gave me 3 weeks pay, and I was out the door. Found out later that there was this idea that I hadn't actually done anything. Afterall, if I wasn't hyped up and going a little crazy, I must not have achieved anything, right? Once they opened the copious files I had created, they found out differently. They did offer me the job back, but I had already found a new post. Thanks, but no thanks!

Absolutely. I knew my current job was not the place for me about a month into the job but when I was interviewing, one of my supervisors asked why I am leaving my then current job after only six months because it takes about 6 months to get acclimated at a new place. So that's why I toughed out my current role for more than 6 months. I should've jumped ship when I could because my current role now has gotten me really down on myself physically and mentally. It's an extremely isolated role and everyone is best friends with each other and you're kind of not included in anything. My one advice, looking back on this past 1.5 years here is, follow your gut instincts and you are the author of your book so if something doesn't feel right, don't tough it out, take a leap to something else and move on. I've been searching for a new role since February this year and I haven't had any luck... so you never know, you might start looking for a new company one month in but can still be there for longer than you want. Good luck!

Yes, my director called me the day that I was announced and told me that people were upset for hiring me for a leadership role outside of the company. The first 6-9 months were pure anxiety, but I stuck it out and have been here for 7 years. The person who was causing all of the drama is no longer here :) Sometimes it's tough but worth it, sometimes it's not and it's time to look. Try to find the value in what you're doing, if you're not able to locate that, it's time to move on.

Yes, and I stayed for a year because I felt it would look better on my resume to "stick it out." Turns out, it made me COMPLETELY miserable and miserable to be around. If you hate the job/ company, just leave. It's not worth sticking around!

If your gut is telling you something is wrong, trust it. Start looking for something else.

I agree with giving it a chance. I’ve had jobs that started off uncomfortable but got better, I’ve also had them start great and end up being a miserable place to work but you can’t find either out until you give it a try. I like the 90 day review, it’s a review for you just as much as the employer. And then you can say you gave it a fair shot.

I wouldn't judge a job so quickly! It's always difficult at first to start over. Things may get better. You might be able to take in active role in making the role better for yourself. Hang in there for a while!
