Advice about Advancing Recruiting/TA Career

Has any professional in talent acquisition experienced having long-term unemployment (1 year) and not having much success with interviews? Unfortunately, I'm experiencing this situation. I was laid-off from a contract role last year and haven't been able to move forward with positions; it seems like a lot of recruiters are looking at the fact that I've been out of the job market for a year. Any advice would be appreciated. At this point, I'm not too sure what route I should take. Thanks!

Hi- My company is currently looking for a Talent Acquisition partner and I would be happy to review your resume. The location is flexible and can be located in CT or NC if you are willing to relocate.

Be sure to mention anything you've done to keep up on the industry during your down time. What books did you read, what classes/webinars did you take, professional organizations you participated in to help you stay in touch with colleagues in your industry, or what you’ve done to prepare for your re-entry into the work place. Your goal is to convey that you’ve been engaged even if you haven’t been formally employed. Best of luck to you!

I am having the same problem, however, my time out of the workforce is much longer. I was working through temp agencies after having my full-time position cut to part-time. My husband was self employed, so I carried our health insurance. After going through 4 agency positions at companies who frowned at me having to take time off for sick kids, doctors appointment and dealing with my autistic son, I made the difficult choice to be a stay at home mom. That was in 2007. I very rarely get an interview. My advice is to submit a cover letter with every job application and resume. Explain why there is a break in your work record. Some hiring managers do appreciate frankness and honesty. Hope that helps. In my case, my age and the fact that I am competing with young candidates with BA's, while I have an AA and about 20 yrs experience.
