Doing things on my own

So, I have a really hard time with waiting for others to help me or trusting when I’m in Despair someone will come to my aide so I just get things done on my own I’ve always been this way. Well, I have a boyfriend who is cheap and our 20 year old fridge just went out and he thinks it’s going to come back alive. He rather call a million people and ask do they have a fridge than to go get one. We have kids and have been putting food in our wine cooler. I’m on edge! I’m not used to calling around and waiting for people to help. Of course we both don’t have the funds to dish out $700-1000 on a new fridge so I said how about financing he says why not then when I show him this is what we are getting this has to be done this week! He says: Wow! 35 a week for a new fridge adds up. I’m completely annoyed at the fact it’s been a month and we don’t have a new fridge. Do I get the darn fridge or what? I mean eating out is getting expensive. I need suggestions I've never been without a major appliance.

Stingy men are not the best men, imho. If you have these kind of money issues with him now, it’s not going to get better down the road. There is frugal, and then there is expecting other people to provide the things he should be providing for his own household. A fridge is a necessity. It is not a frivolous expense. Enough already. Tell him you need a refrigerator. Do some research and measure your space, then go get a fridge. You can get financing for major appliances; lots of people do it that way. Good luck, however you decide to handle it.

There's a difference between not buying frivolous things and not buying necessary things because you're cheap. A cheap man is a red flag because he'll always have an excuse not to spend money! My husband agrees :-) I know for a fact that you can get zero percent financing at Sears so go get that fridge!

Oh my! I did get a good laugh off of this. I totally get what you are saying he is a cheapo I’m finding this out more and more. He is able to save because he won’t buy things.

Get the fridge. And get a new significant other. You didn't mention how many kids you have, but your current boyfriend is one of them. If things are like this NOW they will get worse later.

Do you suggest buying or financing? I have a 13 year old that eats every hour if he could and a baby on the way my boyfriend says the fridges usually starts working in the winter I’m like dude I can’t put breast milk in a fridge that has unregulated tempers throughout the day it’s not safe. I’m leaning more toward buying but that would be a few more weeks of saving. And the old fridge is starting to have a rancid smell coming from the back. If I wasn’t pregnant I would throw the fridge off the balcony I’ve had it!

Eating out is going to cost you more in the long run. Try going to an outlet or scratch & dent store - sometimes they offer financing. Home Depot and Lowes all have clearance items on the floor over the weekends and you can finance it if you have to. Also, you can find good deals at refurbished appliance shops.

Thank you! I might try that!

Give him one more week - but tell him that at the end of the week if he can't find anyone to help you guys then you're buying one yourselves. A month without a fridge is definitely a long time and like you said, eating out is probably costing you more money than it's saving you waiting for someone to help.

This really stresses me. I can do that but soon the whole block will know we don’t have a fridge and still no one is going to help I rather say less and just do it but I am taking in to account of finances and don’t want to make a bad decision .

Purchase a used fridge from Facebook marketplace or other local source, save to buy a new one.

Inspect the home quickly. You can also spray the fridge down before it comes in the door. Years ago, I gave away a fridge which was 1) crazy expensive, and 2) almost brand new, because I had to move and the new place came with one. So things can be found. Try market place, Craigslist, offerup, letgo. Many resources. Living out of a cooler for this long is unacceptable. Good luck!

I know the only reason I have waited this long is because of my cheap boyfriend. Thank you! I'm going to get a fridge this weekend.
