I asked my current manager the pay increase he promised a while back. He told me that he couldn’t, because there were not enough budget, and some people were underpaid compared to me.

Thank you ladies. It's a very frustrating situation. Based on your feedbacks, I believe the best thing for me to do is to have an open talk about this subject again. After this talk, I think I'll be able to see clearly if I should start applying for new opportunities. :)

Did you get it in writing? Are you in a sales role or any type of role where you can show the monetary value that you have brought to the organization? That tends to make things easier. I'd go back with a case for what you've done and why you deserve it.

This is such a great time to be interviewing. I know budgets for promotions and raises can be very limited and that's really frustrating, but this might be a good opportunity to try finding a role at the salary you're interested in!

First, I’m sorry you were even placed in this position. Here’s a little something to think about. Our willingness to waive raises and to pardon breaches of trust than promised is in largely responsible for the wage and income gap between men and women in equivalent or exact jobs. While there isn’t a perfect answer on what to do, I’d try not to settle for less than what you think you deserve.

You could ask what you could do to help to effectively communicate to upper management the importance of abiding by what was promised. I’d also ask how long your employer will be unable to pay what was promised? If they can’t predict when or give you a definable time... I’d start to look elsewhere. Your current pay could influence what your next employer will pay you which isn’t fair.

You're invited.
