Kids and Lice

Sorry to make you itchy with this post. My kids came home from school with lice for the first, and hopefully last time ever. We’ve spent the evening treating heads, washing bedding, and spraying surfaces. The director at my children’s’ school has been notified and said a good second day treatment is using olive oil. Any other suggestions? I want to go to bed but I just can’t get these bugs out of my head. Eek! ? ?

Fairy Tails has a great lice repellent spray and shampoo: https://www.amazon.com/Fairy-Tales-Rosemary-Conditioning-Prevention/dp/B01MCWCHR8 I'm well-versed in lice. A few things to remember: 1. Did you get all of the nits out? You HAVE to get all of them out in order to get rid of the lice for good. Go though the child's hair when it's WET and pick those out. 2. Keep all pillows and stuffed animals in air tight bags for 2 weeks to kill the lice. 3. Don't wash hair every day... Lice love clean hair (I found that out the hard way). 4. Kids get lice through direct contact. So head to head... hugging. Unless it's a crazy infestation, they are likely not getting it through shared clothes. Best of luck...lice is the absolute WORST!

Oh my gosh, thank you!!! I have been washing their hair every day — woops! Their heads have cleared up a lot, but I found like 2 nits yesterday. And yes, there’s a lot of hugging at their school! Every time they leave all the kids do it. Sweet, but eek! I’m Going to try that prevention treatment. Bugs, be gone!

Good advice. I think Trader Joe’s has a tea tree oil shampoo and I’ll buy it. I will do anything right now. My head is already soaked in olive oil. I’m taking no chances!

If you’re able to, get an exterminator to come in and spray the house. Bag up any stuffed animals. Lots of vacuuming and cleaning. Not fun. Be sure to throw away vacuum bags as soon as you’re done and store it in the garage. For preventative, get some tea tree oil and put it in all your shampoos. Worked as a great preventative for us when we were in Texas.
