Did anyone else disagree with their future spouse about the wedding budget?

I am getting married in 2021, and my fiance and I have just started laying the foundations of our wedding budget. However, its becoming really apparent to me that he is less willing to spend as much as I am willing to spend. We're getting some help from our parents, but not a ton. I have had a specific vision for our wedding for a while, and I really don't want to be let down. I also don't want to make this a huge fight, because that's not a great way to spend our engagement. Help??

Understand what his budget is based on. Here is what I would estimate: Invitations, guest book, thank you notes Rings Officiant Attire & accessories (dress, tux, jewelry) Hair/makeup/nails Flowers and decorations Gifts (attendants/parent/master-mistress of ceremonies) Venue & rentals Photographer Entertainment Honeymoon This assumes you don't have a destination wedding, else add travel and lodging for that as well. Once he understands what you're looking at, what does he consider reasonable for each item and what is it based on? Does he want a city hall wedding and you want a $50k gala? Does he want a dozen people and you want 250? Set expectations and then work together on reaching those goals.

We eloped because we didn't want to deal with the finances! Overall, out of all my girlfriends, no one said they regretted not spending more money. If anything, they regretted paying too much for what is just one day.
