Battling medication side effects

Due to medication side effects, I am having a tough time at work. I have a very detailed job in a fast-paced financial firm. I am relatively new to the role. I took some time off to stay home with my son and then began this job. I am trying to keep all the balls in the air but my brain fog is making it difficult and affecting my job performance. The medication is necessary.

I have personally fought brain fog, serious side effects, fatigue from medications. I was prescribed medications that were generally used by narcoleptics. Those side effects were terrible. So I stopped taking them. I eventually found a work fro home job and that has been a tremendous help. Although I still don’t have the stamina I once had, I can function better than before. Please do what is best for you. Taking care of yourself has to be a priority. Good luck.

Two suggestions: 1. If you’ve not already done so, check in with your doctor to see if there is something that can be done to eliminate/reduce brain fog. (Change dosage? Change medication? Add a medication to address brain fog?) 2. Check in with HR to advise that you’ve been prescribed a new medication. My understanding (please verify) is that your employer must make a reasonable accommodation with respect to your condition.

I completely understand what it is like to go through battling medication side effects. I had developed a seizure disorder late in life and the doctors had a very difficult time finding the right combination of drugs to stop them. The one problem area was the withdrawal period from one to start another type. All these drugs causes drowsiness much more severe than cold medicines. I was always in a stupor or a fog like state. My employer would not permit to be off while this was going on because I wasn't "sick". Did not make sense to me since I could not function right. It took a very long time to get them right. I have the seizures in control, the medication is right and no one can tell I ever had a problem. But did I pay a price to get here. Would not wish this on anyone. My heart goes out to you, it is a tough road to travel but you sound like one strong traveler. You have a lot of reasons to stick it out and hopefully you will have better luck with your employer than I did with mind. Good Luck and I will pray for that the side effects simmer down for you and you start feeling human again. Hang in there and you will conquer this.

Make sure to let your HR/Manager know about this change in medication. You can be vague about it and just call it medication without providing the Rx name. This should prevent you from being penalized or disciplined if your work behaviors and output/performance changes. Signed, Your friendly HR lady
