what's the most memorable cover letter you've ever received?

Calling all hiring managers! I'm so curious about what makes a cover letter seem genuine / what makes one memorable. Even though I've read about 'how to make your cover letter stand out,' it's still tough to write anything that doesn't feel sort of generic. I'm curious to hear what, SPECIFICALLY, people who have hired other people look for/remember!

The only one that I've fully read before was when the applicant turned their cover letter into a funny poem. We hired her.

I hate to say it, but I rarely read the cover letters. If I do, I'm looking for someone who has clearly spent the time to understand the job and company vs something I can tell they have used over an over again. I mostly am looking for specific things on the resume, and only spend at most a couple on minutes per resume. The easier it is for me to find what I'm looking for the better - I get frustrated if people use odd resume formats that I can't quickly skim.

I agree, I only skim the cover letters and I'm looking for clear understanding of the role and a concise explanation of why the person thinks they are a good fit for it.
