accomodations

36 weeks pregnant and have gone into pre term labor 2 times. Dr. said that I could work from home, but employer refuses the let me, incase "something happens" while I am on the clock. Now I have no paycheck and short term disability will not pay my claim until baby is born. Is this illegal?

It's definitely worth speaking with an attorney. The Pregnancy Discrimination Act makes it illegal for employers to put a “significant burden” on pregnant employees, such as cutting their hours or refusing shifts. How do you know what’s a significant burden? Start looking around at how your employer treats other non-pregnant employees who have needed an accommodation at work - have they let anyone else work from home in the past? If they have, then they are discriminating against you. If no one is ever allowed to work from home, you'll have a harder time proving discrimination. Good luck - wishing you a healthy baby and a big settlement check :)

Hi Andrea - Sending you positive vibes. I would check with a local attorney, where employment/disability is under your state laws. Most attorneys will do a free consult to get started. Feel free to DM me your state and I am happy to send some attorneys.

If you google the following terms, you will be able to sort through options and contact attorneys for a consultation: "employment attorney Georgia disability rights pregnancy"
