I’m self-conscious about my teeth.

I had braces back in the day but made the terrible mistake of losing my retainer very quickly after getting my braces removed. I didn’t have the courage to tell my parents at the time that I lost them because I knew it would cost money. In retrospect, I should’ve because the money they spent to correct my teeth went to waste after I no longer had a retainer. Fast forward my current 32-year-old self... I swear, I always catch people looking at my teeth while I'm just trying to have a conversation. They're not terrible but they are nowhere close to perfect. It’s embarrassing. I'm not really sure what to do about it. Help?

I was in the same situation and got braces in my early 30s. If you are concerned about money, most orthodontists have payment plans. I considered it an investment in myself. Fast forward a few years....the braces are off and I'm no longer self conscious about my teeth. I didn't realize just how much it bothered me until I didn't have the problem anymore. Very thankful I took care of it!

I actually just started Smile Direct Club. More affordable way ( still pricey but less then Invisalign) to correct teeth. I'd check it out if it is really bothering you that much and making an impact on the way you feel .

I have the same problem. This might be bad advice but this is what I do to make myself feel more confident. I attract attention to my eyes with fun eyeshadow/eyelashes. I make the top of my face outweigh the bottom.

Don't hide your smile! Imperfections are the best.

I have an uneven top front tooth and I kind of like it.

I ended up having top braces again as an adult after braces on both as a teenager. And I still have one of the two retainers that are permanent that I got after that bout of getting the braces. Go back to an orthodontist. They put them on adults, too. Your dental insurance (if you have any) may cover some of it.

My orthodontist told me to make sure I wore my retainer regularly for "a year" after my braces were removed. I did, then stopped — naturally, my teeth later shifted. No one tells you that retainers are for life!

My orthodontist taught me that retainers are for 1-3 years. Not the case.

I know so many people who swear by Invisalign
