PLUS: Dynamic and diverse interests and experience

I see a varied background as well-rounded and interesting. I am not a specialist in any one thing and very talented at many. Marketing this combination is currently a challenge: over qualified or experience is too broad, the resume tracking system seems to "smell" you are above a certain age, create a word cloud, insert key phrases . . . I love my journey and see transferable skills, and I'm seeking employment for all the usual reasons.

I second the recommendation for Jobscan.co. I’ve been using the paid version (unlimited scans) and it made a big difference in my callback rate. I also updated my LinkedIn profile based on its recommendations and got two cold calls from recruiters. Yay! From what I’ve seen, companies want to see a thread of consistency and upward movement over time, even when the jobs are very different. I’ve done a lot of varied jobs in tech, but in my resume, I show a clear line of progression as I moved between roles, so the interviewers can feel like it wasn’t just flakey behavior. I had a plan. A pro resume person can help with that if needed. There are a lot of them available.

I've done the resume pro three or four times. So confusing one says it's junk, do it this way, and another says it's extremely well-written. I left my 9 year employer because I could move laterally but was not offered a progressive path.

Check out Jobscan!!! You can compare your resume to a job description/job post and it scores your resume compared to the job posting.n It's detailed feedback. It's based on the tracking systems used to review resumes. Lot of great tips, very, very helpful, and free!!

I too am finding challenges with exactly what you describe. The online process is so tough to crack. I’m phenomenal at what I do and at this stage of my life can do just about anything. Why can’t anyone see it?

Good luck to you! My thought is, if the resume gets past the system, they can see it but can also pay someone less and mold them. I’m looking to connect with people who value experience and will give me a chance.

The job market is tough out there for baby boomers and seniors who have to continue to work. After a successful career (partner, co-founder, startup experience) with strong background/skills - I can't find a job! Ageism is alive and well - unfortunately!
