My 7-hour flight from Europe to NYC turned into a 20-hour trip home
Between a canceled flight, a medical emergency landing in Amsterdam, and the plane hitting a bird which included extended hours of technical issues, my flight home was one for the books. It’s moments like this where it’s so easy to focus on the negatives but for some reason, I can’t help but focus on the positives to this story. 1) I don’t know what happened to the person who we stopped the plane for. But someone with a medical background was on board and, wow, we were lucky she made an executive decision that included an emergency landing. 2) Shoutout to the flight attendants. They had to keep it cool while the rest of us internally panicked. 3) We hit a bird which meant two more hours on the runway for maintenance checkups and no AC. But in a weird (probably slap happy) way, this was comic relief. 4) I slept in an airport with strangers. But with everyone coping with their unexpected itineraries we all had a common, unspoken bond. I felt safe. 6) Last but not least, flying oversees (or anywhere) is a luxury that I should never take for granted.
Women of Fairygodboss, what’s your crappy day story and how did you make it positive?
