When I worked for Intel, they gave sabbaticals every 7 years. I left at 6.5 years so I never had a chance to plan mine. Everyone thought I was crazy to leave just before, but it was a career pause for me and the timing was right. My babies were 1 and 3 and needed a parent at home rather than one who travelled a lot (me) and one who was on call a lot (my physician husband). It's more than a decade later now, but I'm on a self-funded sabbatical - launching a business and a podcast all about helping women put purpose into their career pauses so they're ready to one day return.
