Quit my job due to stress

My last job I didn’t dislike my actually job it was my co-workers who made my life a living hell. The last 6 months I was there, Every day I would cry going into work and then throw up after getting there. After 10 years I had to quit for my health. Granted I made great money but when is a job worth all that?! My present job isn’t a piece of cake, but I have decided to go in skip the drama queens and go home happy. Being under paid and not a lot of joy in what I do, is still better than being stressed everyday at work.

The reason behind the stress with co-workers was because everyone I worked with was very unprofessional they would come in late, take long lunches and then try and skip out early every day. Leaving me to handled the work load. My manager was uneducated she had no degree what so ever and resented me because I had one. I on the other hand tried and wanted to make the work environment a better place to work. HR did finally fire my manager on her lack of conduct. I was left working with the employees she had brought in because they were her friends and that is the reason they behaved the way they did in the work place. Evidently the co-workers she had brought in were fired as well, unfortunately it had taken it toll on my physical and well being so I ended up quitting, I did find a my more rewarding job which I actually like, less pay . It was definitely a learning experience for me...like us way to short to be miserable in a job that offer no joy.

Congratulations on making the difficult decision to step away. A good paycheck doesn't make up for a toxic environment that you loathe. I hope you're now enjoying starting each day!

Office is one big politics arena. You find all sorts of people to deal with, pulling you down, defaming you, harassing you mentally. I know your experience was bad in the last job, but hey 10 years of knowing such people might have taught you a lot and had made you one tough person. Your health for sure would have taken a toll. 10 years, you might have made some good relationships also there, it's quite a long time. Now, that you have moved and found a new job with less pay and you are saying that it's not a piece of cake and you don't love what you do. There is a possibility my dear, that you get bored with it easily some day later. It's just a suggestion, that take this new job as time off and get your health and happiness back in place. Keep exploring yourself, try to know what you love doing. All people are not made for jobs, some have talents to start their own work/business. You have given 10 years of your life working for someone, who didn't appreciate your worth and work. Give few months knowing what you love doing, what you always wanted to do, invest your time and thoughts on yourself. I am sure you will be more than happy . Start with small but strong , you will reach the heights . And 10 years , that is enough to make contacts in this professional world. Try and use them in building up something productive. All the best !

I'm not sure how I came to work every day for some part of my five years in one position. It was very stressful and full of drama. I hated coming into work and it ultimately ended up in me wanting to quit my job and not come in. I found out all the little things they were doing to cause me more drama and I witnessed them doing it to others. Needless to say I moved out of that department and that part of my stress is gone. I would not settle for less because of how someone treated you. Find the job you truly love. Not all businesses have that catty little group that wants to make your life miserable. Never give up on your dream.

A true testament to the cliche: money doesn't buy happiness. Glad to hear you got out of a bad situation. Hopefully your new role will evolve and if not, I'd keep your options open!

Good for you in removing yourself from what sounds like a toxic situation! Life is too short to be miserable. Hopefully you'll ultimately be able to receive comparable pay in your new company, but protecting your mental health is never the wrong call.

Thanks for sharing. I think it’s still important to find joy in what you do and be properly paid for it. I wouldn’t settle for anything less than what you deserve.

Curious to hear why/how these coworkers made your life so difficult? Can you share a little more details?
