Home Buying criteria

I know this varies so greatly from person to person, but I'm just curious- what is/has been your criteria when purchasing a home? I'm interested in your specific list and why that works for you, understanding that it may not work for me or others. Just curious to see what worked for you. Thanks!

Thank you so much for sharing your insights! I read through these last week and just realized I still had this tab open and never responded. Appreciate you taking the time!

I love this question! I wanted open floor plan, proximity to public transportation, neighborhood walkability, and enough space for a growing family.

When we purchased our first home I wanted something with character, at least two full bathrooms, and no creepy basement or attic. My husband wanted a man cave and to be within a 10 minute drive to/from the hospital he works at. Now that we have kids, we want our next house to have all bedrooms on the same level, I want main level or upstairs laundry, and way more space for toys/playroom.

Must haves for me are large family room, reputable builder, separate area for my office/crafts (I have a whole floor dedicated to it now), front porch, at least 2-car garage, and a big yard for my fur-butts. If I were to buy another house today, I would want one-floor living with an in-law suite, a basement for my office/crafts, and I want an attached but separate garage (i.e. not over part of the house). and absolutely NOT in a neighborhood with an HOA. I would like a house on at least 2-3 acres.
