Priorities.. bosses hand them down to you based on the business strategy. These become your priority or goal for the year.
One priority that I received recently boggled me. It was asking me to the contribution of reducing lead time in an area that I have no control over. In other words.. one of the leaders was given the task to reduce lead time and they let that trickle down hill to the peon who really has no control over it. Not only that but you are being asked to do this with less resources.
Now of course this is one of a list of priorities that you can choose from but this particular one is specific to your department. So how do you do this when you know you're going to fail? I did push back and told my boss that this was not a reachable goal/priority but they feel we have to take this priority on. What would you do?
