I found Upwork a couple of years ago, and I have worked steadily to get good ratings, and satisfy my clients. I don't like the 20% fee that they charge, but I reasoned that I'd be spending that much on marketing and advertising if I wasn't getting clients through them. Plus they have a guarantee that you will get paid if you do the work. All except - as I found out - if you post "manual" hours. Then you're at the mercy of your client. Learned that one the hard way.
More recently, they have started charging for "connects" - which you use in order to submit a proposal. These were free in the beginning. I'm about out of my "free" connects reservoir, and I really object to paying in order to look for work. They should be paying me!
Now I'm back in the search mode for a good platform to find freelance work. Any thoughts?
