I ask this because both this site and LinkedIn are chock full of posts talking about rude and unprofessional recruiters. I am hoping someone can help me to understand what their role is in 2019. From my own search and what I am reading, they let the ATS scan the resumes and then when someone makes it through, they call and phone screen and then pass along to a hiring manager, end of involvement. This pretty much seems like a redundant role between the ATS and hiring manager (who often can perform the phone screen). A common thread seems to be how unprepared these recruiters are to answer questions or have any kind of experience with the role they are hiring. They then ghost the candidate never bothering to close the loop. It speaks terribly of the HR profession as far as I can tell.
