TDI Maternity Leave and my Health Insurance

My employer is implying that they may not be 'allowed' to continue my group health insurance coverage for the duration of the 8 weeks I am on Temporary Disability Leave after the birth of my baby. They seem to think they can only provide me with health insurance coverage for 4 weeks of leave then I will no longer be considered a full time employee of the company. I was under the impression that this was my employer's decision. If they grant me the leave of absence for the 8 weeks following my c-section, they are able to choose weather or not to keep my health insurance as is. Anyone know anything about this? I should note that our company is under 30 employees so even after June 30th this year, we are still not eligible for FLA or FMLA.
