Does makeup matter at work?

When it comes to getting ready, I'm back and forth on a low-key approach or a glamorous angle. For example, red lipstick is fierce but I'm trying to portray a strong professional look. Should I leave the bold and beautiful makeup behind or own it?

I like make up at the office. I don't think you need the full on rock star glam - but a bright polished look is fine, a little mascara and a nude lip is all you need.

I love makeup, I've been a mascara fiend since middle school. However, when I hear the makeup vs. no makeup argument come up, I know women who still look polished without makeup and I think THAT'S the distinction. A no makeup look is fine but if it looks like you just rolled out of bed, that's not good.

The worst is when I feel guilty about not having the pin-up ready, eyebrow ready look. I try not to care but sometimes I do.

This. I feel like the standard for appearance is higher for women than it is for men at my (male-dominated) company, and I don't love that, but I'm aware of the impact it has in practice.

I had overheard my manager once say that he hoped I started to wear makeup. I started looking for a new job the next day.

Not a fan of caked-on makeup. I like recognizing who I'm talking to.

I think if you feel pressured to wear makeup at work then that's a problem. But if you actually enjoy it, go for it! Bold is beautiful but going for a natural look is flattering as well.

I know some people love the process of putting on makeup but I think it takes a time consuming toll on me.
