Getting blocked in my career

I am the most successful salesperson on my team, which sounds great, except I don't want to do sales. I have previous sales management experience and took this role as a stepping stone in a new industry to get into the company and learn the business, with the goal of going back into management once I'd proven myself. Well, I have more than proven myself, but because I'm performing at the level I am, my leadership won't promote me into the role I actually want to do or have earned because they are afraid of losing the revenue I bring in. I feel trapped. I've shared with them I want to lead a team, but they have made it clear they want me on the front lines selling. Any suggestions in how to deal with this outside of leaving the company?
