Direct Sales

I know a lot of us have many different views on direct sales. However, I see that there are many people who are successful doing this. Somehow, I keep finding myself in a rut on who I need to contact. There's a fear, not a feel, but a rejection feeling that I know that I am going to get when I want to present something to someone about what I am doing. I guess, I don't take rejection very well in that regard, but that is my own mentality..Some days, I'm head strong and just go for it, and then some days I don't. What did you do to overcome it? And how?

I can relate with your thoughts and apprehensions about reaching out and having the fear of not being accepted or the dreaded word - "rejected". How I overcame this is by telling myself over and over that I am just a medium, I am delivering a solution that is useful for them. Let me help them because I want to and they deserve to know! The less I focused on myself, the easier it was for me to face the situation head on. You are in a good spot - you have acknowledged your fear - not everyone is bold enough to go there. So, congratulations on setting the example! And hey, when you make that big sales, don't forget to pat yourself on the back! Cheers :)

I agree with all of the above from Grace and offer additional advice. If you find yourself wavering in regards to selling - you either don’t believe in the product or you don’t believe the customer wants the product. The first step to selling that has helped me a bunch has been to start off with conversation - identify the needs of the customer first. Once you know the customer, you know their need, then you can rest upon your knowledge of the product or service to educate them on how it would meet the specific needs they mentioned. If you don’t feel the item would have any impact on them, respectfully back off. Sales is about you acting as a matchmaker between product or service and an individual or business that may need it. Build rapport, be yourself, establish a connection and identify that they have the need for it before pushing on and you’ll notice an improvement (and a lot less stress). If you don’t believe in your product or service, find something you’re passionate about and the same skills will apply. Hate selling an item? Find a non-profit or something of interest to you to promote a service instead. *If by direct sales you mean a multilevel marketing organization, please reconsider your time and energy as these are predatory organizations which have bankrupted many unsuspecting people. You can find sales positions for many companies that offer benefits, paid time off, work from home in some cases, and a regular salary.*

Everyone has their own fears. You just have to deal with them head on. You've already admitted that your fear of rejection is your own mentality. That's the first step - acceptance. The second step would be to change your mentality. This phase takes time and a lot of effort. You just have to keep at it. Remember why you are doing it and JUST DO IT! Cheers!
