I’ve been in discussions with my boss about moving from an internal role to sales (banking), and salary is up in the air. The salary range is the same on both roles although the sales role also has a large commission component. I was approached by a recruiter for another bank 2 mths ago and they were offering 12% more for the job I’m currently doing. That salary was 8k below the top of my current salary range. I shared the information with my boss and he was shocked (and unaware that the figure was within our internal range). I was contacted by a different bank yesterday and again, the number I mentioned to them was well within their range.
My question is, do I tell my boss about this additional bank basically confirming market rate? I do not want to shift banks right now, and am really excited about the internal opportunity, but I also don’t want to undercut myself.
Advice/guidance much appreciated!
