I am in a medical field with a content area that overlaps with another group of physicians. Training in both fields is similar. Content is similar. There is no data on outcomes between groups. The other group is politically stronger and larger than my group. In other parts of the country, the power balance is reversed. At my institution, they are blocking my access to patients, which decreases my institutional visibility, inhibits my ability to train residents (they have their own to train), minimizing my job satisfaction and the income I generate. I was hired to be the senior person in this area. My boss was disorganized and never supported our growth in this area. My new boss and her boss had a conversation with the other chair (not including me because I am not the section head or chair). The other group refused to negotiate a more equitable arrangement and my prize negotiators caved. Any thoughts on my next step?
