I had previously came from the corporate world during to downsizing. I settled on a position that was way beneath my qualifications, education
etc...after 6 years as a contractor and lest amount of money I had ever made in my life. Our contracts were not picked up and many of us found ourselves once again unemployed. At this point I decided to enjoy my summer and if the perfect job came along I would maybe consider it. I have applied for jobs that recognize my background and education to no offers. I have recently started getting offers for positions once again as in the field that I hated for the pass 6 years. I have ignored the calls since I’m no longer interested in that field of work, which was very physical demanding. As summer comes to a close I’m at the point where I feel that retirement is my only choice, even though I’m still have a few good years before that magic number for retirement. We all know as we get older employer do not want anyone close to 60 who may only give them 3 to 5 years . I know it’s an costly investment in someone who will maybe stay only a few more years working for them. I feel life is to short to be miserable in a job that you don’t want or that will break you down both physical and mentality. So I’m hoping to look part time and do something that brings me job and happiness in my life at this point. I guess my question here are there others out there who have been forced into early retirement or taking lesser jobs to make ends meet? Unfortunately we have become a throw away society which throws older people out to make way for the young. So age discrimination is real!
