Purpose

I was recently at a job for 6 years. I was told my pay would increase tremendously but it never did. Without having a back up plan or really a savings I quit..I was fed up. Now I’m low on funds and have way too many responsibilities to have made that decision. It’s been a year and I haven’t been able to find any other jobs. I really wanted to some at home jobs because I have a 6 month old and a 2 year old. My older ones will be attending school. I will be starting school soon and I choose an online school which also means no refund check. It’s important for me to go back to school because I know exactly what I want for my education goals. I don’t even need to make a lot of money. I literally need from $250-$350 for bills. Any suggestions?

Have you any kind of interest in medical coding? You need coursework and have to pass a rigorous exam but it’s mainly a work at home job.

I have a similar situation, left a job that offered no growth opportunities and was stressful. I'm now working from home making great money, for a company called Optavia. I'm a health and wellness coach. I lead others to optimal wellbeing and it's incredibly rewarding. The compensation plan is fantastic . Feel free to contact me uf you'd like to find out more! https://disruptaging.optavia.com.

I think with this idea of a shared economy there are many awesome possibilities. You could be come a lift and uber driver where you set your schedule. You could teach english to chinese students online. You could get a customer services job.. now these are jobs to just pay the bills.. but as you have professional competences I would say let’s get more creative and get a 100% remote job. I’m not sure school is the answer, but with 2 kids non-school age and the cost of childcare maybe school is a god sent blessing! Cause you can rebuild yourself and have an amazing experience with your little ones.. that’s what I would say is the blessing that came from quitting your job! Stay strong! Your awesome!

I think you have a lot of options. Child care being one of them. Should you get a license? That’s up to you. My neighbor watched my daughter for years. There are also a lot of ways to work from home and still be the primary caregiver for your kids. Although, JB09718 is correct in saying that most companies will require you to have childcare while you’re “on duty.” That being said there are a lot of different possibilities. Check reputable websites like Flexjobs and see what you can come up with. Good luck!

If you decide to pursue babysitting or in-home daycare, you may need to apply for state inspections/licenses etc. Some parents also request that you are CPR/first aid certified. However, if you work at a childcare facility, they may offer free or discounted childcare for your kids too. If you’re just looking for an alternative schedule (evening or weekend hours to be home with kiddos during the day) you could do part-time retail (bonus: pick someplace you love to shop so you get the discount!) or work at an answering service for offices. From what I’ve heard many work from home positions at companies have regulations regarding children in the home during working hours. (I believe the general rule is you cannot be the primary caregiver, another adult must be present.) There are companies that offer virtual personal assistants though

I am grateful for your post. I have been thinking about quitting my job of 9 years, but I will hold off until I line up something else.

Finding a job that allows you to be home with your kids to avoid paying for childcare is unlikely. There are not many jobs other than watching someone else’s kids that you can do while having an infant and a toddler around. Not sure what you are going to school for but I would start looking for entry level roles in that business and figure out how you will handle childcare.

I would look at watching another child while you have your children. If you care for another mom’s child while she is working, and it be similar to a “nanny share,” she can pay you between $7-$9/hour, since nannies of 2 kids get $14-$18/hour and you’ll have your 6 month old with you. If you watch another child 30 hours a week, that will get you about $210-$270/week. Then, I would see if any local business needs someone to do computer work for them, which you can do from home or a part-time receptionist for 5-15 hours/week at $15/hour. You’ll Make it work, mom’s always do!

It’s great to hear that you’re going back to school and investing in yourself. To help with advice, can you share what kind of background you have or are interested in getting into?
