Male Boss Preference

I am a Generation Xer who worked for a younger female boss. It was the worst experience I've ever encountered in the workplace. I work in transportation so the industry is primarily male dominated. I will take a misogynistic male any day over stiletto wearing back stabbing females as both bosses and co-workers. When women finally learn to be team players they will be equal with men in the workplace. Men work together even if they don't like each other and women work against each other even if they claim to "like" the other female. I liken work to high school, the guys lie to their buddies' girlfriends if they call looking for them, while women call their female "friends" and make up lies about the current boyfriend being a cheat or some friend not liking another friend. Guys don't care they play baseball and football with people they don't like but have enough respect to have their back when playing on the same team.

The two worst managers I've had were females. As were the two best. I'll continue to take my chances because the results can be incredibly profound. Poor leaders come in all shapes, sizes and genders.

I'd say you haven't worked for a really good misogynist yet. I'll tell you from experience, it's no walk in the park. I agree with A.N. It's the person, not the gender. Even worse are the unconscious biases that we deal with in the work place. Where I currently work, there's one guy who is remarkably deaf to people who don't have the correct plumbing. He'd be shocked to hear that criticism and yet, it's true. Focus on finding a place where you fit in and can thrive rather than the gender of your boss.

Oh no I worked for one of those. He at least had the decency to be an outright outspoken women hater stating women belonged at home and certainly not in the engine of a train. The difference was he didn't "pretend" to like me or want "good" things for me while undermining me. If a person is going to be a [email protected] just be one and don't pretend you're something else. The is part of the problem with women as bosses and coworkers. They are phony.

I’ve had good and bad male and female bosses. I am convinced that it’s the person that matters, not the genders that they belong to. I wonder if one problem was your boss’s relative lack of experience? Some younger bosses are rendered insecure by accomplished older workers and others just haven’t had the time to evolve into good managers. A friend of mine (Gen X) had a younger manager who would revise my friend’s work, introducing inaccuracies into the work product. My friend eventually resigned in frustration, after the manager would not let up.

Had good and bad of both genders. Male sales leader who stole my accounts (and commissions) was the worst, followed by a power hungry (but not younger) manager who threw ANYONE under the bus to get ahead. Have not seen the high school aspect myself, but have definitely worked for good ones as well!

I hate to say it, but I feel the same. I deal with less drama and men are more laid back at times. I've also found that with a female boss, they're not always supportive of when you're trying to move up the ladder. It's disappointing really.

Suzan, I agree with you and there is nothing to be ashamed of either. When dealing with male leaders you don't have to deal with the emotional side of the female leader. Men are direct and do not let emotions sway their decisions. I'm a generation Xer like you. Your good to go.
