I wanted a big change so I chopped my hair off and went from blonde to black

For 32 years, I’ve always been very predictable. I’ve had the same long blonde hair and I swear I’ve looked the same for the last decade. But after a relationship shakeup and few strands of grey hair later, I just had a massive urge to change the way I looked and start fresh. I don’t want to look like a new person but wow, it sure was liberating. Has anyone else done something outside of their comfort zone lately?

I left my successful career and over 10 years at the same company behind to take a career break and volunteer. I hated my last job at that company - so much that I'd have crazy anxiety on Sundays at the thought of another week coming up and how far away the weekend was. On paper my career seemed awesome - I made great money, had a high title, had amazing benefits, could take tons of PTO, but for the first time in what had previously been an amazing and challenging career, I was bored. I was working a ton of hours and I felt like the work I was doing wasn't meaningful, and I needed more from life. So one day I went in and told my boss I wanted to do something that had more meaning, and I was moving to Africa to volunteer. I was previously a very financially responsible person, and in one swoop I gave notice on my job, left behind my mortgage and rented out my condo to a stranger, created long distance relationships with my boyfriend, my friends and my family, and I moved alone to Africa for 6 months to run a girls and women's empowerment program. I had to learn new languages, a new way of communicating, a new job and a new life, all while getting paid nothing and living off of savings. It was scary and uncomfortable and exhilarating and extraordinarily empowering, and I found the meaning I was looking for. Then I came back to the States and got a job doing something I love, that has meaning, that makes a difference. Now that I've done that, I believe that I can literally do anything.

I've recently signed up to become a mentor. I've always wanted to but socializing with strangers was always a bit of a worry for me. This was a great way to get out of my comfort zone.

Love the hair change idea! I tried an improv class and I'm so hooked. I'm not great but I love how excited/nervous it makes me feel. I'm overcoming a speaking in public fear and I think improv really helps.

I'm 33 and I ran my 1st marathon this year. While I know I'll never do it again, I was so happy I randomly decided to do something crazy. (I'm not a runner)

I randomly learned to tango recently. SO out of my comfort zone. SO fun though.

I signed up for a dating app for the first time ever and that's totally out of my comfort zone.

I've always wanted to do something crazy like that but I've never had the guts. You go, girl!
