How do I get a job offer after taking time off?

People take time off for different reasons. Maybe it's pursing a personal venture, for family reasons, or maybe they're in need of a mental break. The reason I took time off was to go travel. My lifetime bucket list is to see every country on the map so I took a year off to try and jumpstart my bucket list. Financially, I'm very lucky I was able to do this. I'm 32, single and have no kids so I thought... why not? But I'm struggling to figure out a way to get back in the swing of things. For example: is it weird that my resume shows that I haven't worked for a year? Any/all advice is welcome!

Be sure to update your resume and have multiple people proof read. One spelling error mistake can change a recruiter's opinion fast.

It sounds like you didn't fear change when you quit your job. A lot of us say we'd love to do this but you actually did which is impressive. I think that you should take advantage of not fearing change for this next chapter in your career as well. I'm sure traveling has given you a fresh perspective. Have your career goals prior to taking off changed since you've gotten back? This could be a great way to start searching.

I admire that you did this so much. My advice would be to reconnect with your network and garner strong references that will be able to attest to important assets like your hard work, determination and work ethic. Best of luck!

I think you should give it a name and a title on your resume: for the past two years you were "Student of the World" and make bullet points about what you accomplished and learned. Instead of treating it as something to ignore or sweep under the rug, show why it makes you hirable! You're an entrepreneurial risk-taker! :)
