PFL

I live in Ca I was let go from an employer where I almost worked a year and with them I would qualify for PFL well bow I work for another employer and I've been with them for 3months. I wasnt expecting to get pregnant yet I am. So I would get the 6 weeks after pregnancy with disability insurance through EDD but I'm wondering since i worked for the other employer and i paid into the PFL can i still receive that even though I'm not working for them?

Congrats!!! Time off for child birth in CA can be tricky. My baby is due one week after my 12 month mark, so I've been nervous about getting my full time off. I would definitely speak with your HR rep. From my understanding, even though you may qualify for PFL, your current employer wouldn't be obligated to provide the time off. The main thing to understand is PFL and Disability are for wage replacement and Pregnancy Disability Leave (PDL)/FMLA/CFRA is for protected time off. In cases where you have been there at least 12 months, once your doctor says you are no longer disabled, PDL and disability stop. PFL then kicks in for wage replacement, but you have job protected leave time under CFRA. I believe in your case, it would be up to your current employer whether or not they want to provide you the additional time off beyond Pregnancy Disability Leave. Definitely talk to them about it! Also, feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. :)
