Lifestyle & Relationships

How are you managing relationships, whether personal or professional ones during this economic downturn?

Working in talent we build our rapport by meeting people face to face and develop strong working relationships with people in the workplace, what do you feel you have lost in this sense with working from home and any tips you could share to stay connected?

On a personal level, I have been very connected with friends and family via video calls (zoom, facetime, whats app), texts... I feel that people needs to be connected now more than ever, and sometimes just need to be listened, and support each other whenever possible. Gladly we have technology to help with this. Professional relationships also requires a lot of connection these days, through conference and video calls. In my opinion managers have a lot of responsibility these days by being also motivational leaders as people may be emotionally affected. Social distancing is not social isolation, so interaction is key!

I've made a point to reach out to connections via text. I've realized that many people, just like me, are looking to stay connected and to feel connected with people. When time allows for calls or video chats I schedule those too. Reaching out is the key, be the initiator of every conversation if needed to keep connections.

Use of zoom calls for that virtual face to face interaction. Additionally using Yammer as a social media platform basically but keeps it specific to a group of individuals.....using Yammer not for business specific things but more social, light hearted, humorous, engaging whole families (through primary colleague) instead of what we would normally just focus on individual. I've been posting daily interaction challenges within our Yammer page

Using video and not just voice for conference calls makes a difference, especially in smaller calls. Spend a couple minutes asking how their family is holding up. Share a funny story. ASI, my company uses yammer. Until recently I didn’t spend much time there because I’m there to work, not socialize. But we’ve been using it much more as a company to try and keep things light and help each other cope by sharing things like pictures of our workspaces, dogs, kids, etc.
