People who try to "claim" more than one machine at the gym at a time.

And when I say "people," it's only ever been dudes who I have personally seen do this (go figure). They'll be using one machine but leave their personal items on another, to ensure it'll be free when they want to use it again. Got in a rather heated exchange with a man at the gym about this today. Has anyone else had to deal with this??

I know your intentions are to keep yourself healthy and having to deal with such can be aggravating and disruptive to something that you enjoy. I've had it happen to me once. I approached it by saying, "Hey, I know you are on a crunch and have your repertoire of exercises you need to complete within certain time; but, I am wondering if I could increase both of our challenges ..." I ended proposing me jumping in and pushing him to do it faster and having certain times of sets. We did this for the next few months when we both met. A sort of friendship arose from it.

Wow that's amazing. I have never even considered building up a rapport with these people because like IntentionGirl I sort of just either totally avoid these types of people or I aggressively move their stuff and get on the machine. But I'm now re-thinking what I do...

I quite understand your sentiment. When I was confronted with such situation it was in a different country and was placed in the group of "those people". Additionally, when I would go to the gym there, it was all about be the warrior (aggressive rather than assertive). Hence, I changed the way I was looking at the situation. At the end of the day, I wanted to remove the label that was placed on me by that particular society. My perspective was not to completely remove the "Those people" label, but live and interact with that/those that were around me.
