Would you rather?

Work 4 days a week OR work 6 hours a day and why?

Can we combine the two? 4 days AND only 6 hours? lol. My ideal would be the 4 days. BUT if I had to pick one or the other with the current role I am in, I would do the 6 hours because there are certain parts of my role where I am the only one who does it and I know I will probably get bugged on my off weekday's . Plus, with lunch included I am only putting in 5 hours. Great question.

Jemia, that's an interesting perspective! Five hours sounds really nice when you put it like that. It's like a full-time-paying part-time job!

I'll take 4 long busy days, than come an extra day cause of leaving early.

4 days for sure! I've always worked long hours, so I would rather do that for less days in a row and then have a nice long weekend every weekend to relax my brain :)

I agree! The hours matter less to me because my primary focus is simply getting through my to-do list, not getting the day over with

I currently only work 4 days and absolutely love having Fridays off so I can have one weekday to run errands that can only be done during the week (as opposed to being able to be done on the weekend).

4 days a week all the way - I actually work long hours already, way more than 40 hours a week, so I'd rather have the extra day to recover!

At first thought, I agreed with everyone else on 4 days. However, after thinking more about it I'd rather 6 hours a day so that I could use the extra time every day to go to the gym. I never have the energy to go after a long work day- so those extra hours would make all the difference in my exercise routine.

Ooo, that's a great point! I feel that way about yoga bc my peak hours and work hours overlap.

4 day weeks for sure! While working less time per day would be nice, I’m sure that time would just disappear in day to day living. A 3 day weekend is more intentional and a far better mental break for me that just working a little less each day. And I’ve done both! ?

I agree that a 3-day weekend could be better spent than leaving work early. Does you job allow you to do both?

I had a job in the past that allowed my to work a compressed schedule (4 10 hour days) and I had a different job where I was briefly on a 30 hour schedule and worked 6 hr days. For the last few years I’ve been self employed, which, for me, I discovered means working always and never. I take any time off I really want, but I always feel “on”. That’s one of he reasons I’m going back to corporate.

Sierra, I'm curious. Were you not able to "control" your own schedule while you were self-employed? Was it a bandwidth issue on why you felt like you could not turn it off?

4 days! Once I'm at work I don't mind staying and working a while, but I'd love to have a 3-day weekend. More time for weekend getaways!

I agree with this! Eight-hour workdays don't bother me because my company prioritizes work-life balance. But a 3-day weekend is quite the game changer for a local getaway!

Oh this is a really hard question. I think I'd rather have 4 days a week to prevent burnout and have 3 full days of time for myself.

Agreed. If I could have every Friday off I'd probably disconnect by reading a book or just taking more personal time for myself.

*high fives across the board* I agree! I'd probably spend Fridays running errands and being productive, Saturdays partying and brunching, and Sundays binge watching a show or lounging outside!
