Hi All.
Thank you for taking the time to read my long post. I need some advice on whether or not I should continue to stay at my current job to reap the benefits of maternity leave. I've been at my job for almost 8 years. I have been unhappy with a lot of things for a quite some time. I have always been underpaid in comparison to my peers, I am overlooked on great opportunities, my projects are constantly understaffed and therefore I am overworked and overstressed. It's kinda of a running joke in the office that I'm constantly taken advantage of and not taken seriously. I've stayed there for so long, because I had hoped things would turn around for me and I would get the same opportunities and respect as my peers. I have also stayed because we have been trying to start a family for 5 years and it looks like we might actually have that chance. It's early, but if I were to accept a new position elsewhere (I'm currently interviewing) I would only be there for +/-7 months before going on leave. Less time employed at a place typically means less maternity leave. So after all of that, does it make sense to leave a job that I am completely unhappy in to reap the benefits of 8 weeks paid maternity leave or should I take the leap I've been wanting to take for nearly 4 years and risk the chance of minimum paid leave or unpaid leave? Thank you again for reading this and giving me advice!
