Mental Health Effect

After years of working at the same place, I have discovered that I simply cannot stand sitting at the same desk, at the same place, all day, every day - it's not what I was cut out for. In fact, it is taking a huge toll on my mental health. I have proven to myself that I function far more effectively when I am working the same job in different settings. However, I don't think most people I work with share this mindset. I'm the type of person who could strap a laptop on their shoulders and type while walking all day, but I highly doubt my coworkers could relate to this. It seems that many of them really don't mind all the sitting. Has anyone successfully been able to convince their workplace to allow them to work wherever they want? Even if just 1 or 2 days a week? I don't have the same type of justification as many do who request this, as I do not have children or valid excuses for being out of the office except simply to get a change of scenery. Any thoughts on this are welcome.

Yes! My office not only has two treadmill desks and multiple hotelling options throughout the building in addition to our cubes, we're encouraged to work off site with the client or from home. As long as you're getting the work done, it truly shouldn't matter where you're located.

In lieu of remote options, have you considered a standing desk? It has made a big difference for me!

First off, congratulations for acknowledging this and you are NOT alone in this world :) A change in settings can be refreshing and there are definitely parts about my job that I simply do better when I'm wearing my fuzzy slippers on the couch (legit). If you feel like your current company culture doesn't support alternative working arrangements you can always start poking around to see what other 'tribes' are out there. You never know! You might find one that matches the vibe you're looking for :)
