Anybody know where I should apply?

I'm a 17 year old female, who desperately needs a job. Problem is, I have no references or prior experience. I recently moved from my childhood home, because of personal problems, and I was never able to get a job down there. We had no car and no way to get me there. I have no idea where I should even start with this, not many people are willing to hire a high school senior with no experience. I've tried applying to so many jobs, and none of the hired me. I'm running out of options, and I need help.

Check out Walmart. They have started a program to hire high school/college age workers, and they provide money for college. Starbucks also has tuition assistance and provides some benefits. These are good places to get experience with international companies....so you can show your ability to learn and follow through.

Retail is a great place to start and if you like it has enormous growth potential. I started at JCPENNEY when I was 17 with no work experience as a holiday hire. Which BTW holiday hiring is starting now and is a great way to get your foot in the door.

Try care.com. It was started by a woman. You can find babysitting jobs, nanny jobs, tutoring jobs and elder care.

How far are you able to commute? The 5 supermarkets around me are all reachable by bicycle. And I COULD walk to them if I needed to. They are hiring ALL THE TIME, because they are entry-level jobs. They train you, and you don’t have to “take the job home with you” in terms of worrying about the business. It would at least establish that you are responsible and reliable, and can work as part of a team. In the meantime, you might consider what trade school programs are nearby. Think about what you’re good at, and also about what skills employers are looking for.

Even if you don't have prior work experience, as a high school student you would have gained experiences through school projects. If you can review which projects you excelled at and the feedback you received from your teachers, then you won't be starting from zero when you apply for jobs. As far as where to apply . . . warehouse, retail, and service businesses usually have positions that require almost no experience. They are tough, low-paying jobs, but the managers will already expect to train their new hires from the basics, so you will learn a ton.
