My marketing team plus another in my organization have been pulled from our business unit and dropped into a shared service model. I got a new boss suddenly last week. My company is going through a lot of changes and restructuring (many people have been cut) I worry if I don’t step up we could be on the chopping block too. Is it crazy to go to my new boss on our 2nd meeting together and tell her I want to lead another business unit’s marketing? (There work is closely aligned with ours and they haven’t started marketing yet) I see this as a huge opportunity and I know the business. Is it too soon to come to her with this idea? Is that too eager? I worry if I wait too long the opportunity could pass or my business unit gets let go and it feels desperate then. I feel like I want to go in there confident, tell her why I’d like to and what I bring to the table and show her my initiative, if it doesn’t work, I’ll know I did my best...is this too much? Have you ever done something “bold” career wise and did it work out?
