Unpopular opinion: I think side hustles are a toxic trend.
These days, "side hustles" have become a pretty ubiquitous concept. Everybody has one — and if you don't, you're seen as less motivated/enterprising at best or lazy at worst. That's how I feel, at least... as a mom of three who's employed full-time outside the home, the last thing I have time for is a "side hustle" (and that's not to say my family couldn't financially benefit from me having one). But that's exactly the problem I have with this trend — many of us do NEED second (or even third) means of income, because we're not being paid a living wage by our primary jobs. By putting side hustles on a pedestal, we're taking the onus away from exploitative companies that don't pay us enough and putting it instead on ourselves — then acting like it's something to celebrate! Does anyone else feel this way??
